Server 105 / Re: Trouble Downloading Client
« on: August 17, 2016, 02:32:22 AM »
FYI the main reason I don't normally have zip files up is that if something is wrong with the updater (perhaps on specific systems), people tend to download the zip again instead of saying something which isn't ideal for users or for bandwidth. If something goes wrong during install or update it's a massive help when players let us know what happened vs grabbing the zip file :)

What operating system are you using? I made a zip file available temporarily at (please let me know when you've downloaded it) but would like to find out why the installer crashed.

Sorry for multi posting, but I wanted to make sure that you can see a new post was made. You can fix it if you choose to. Anyways, I found another bug. Its not a game breaking one, but it can be annoying if your like in a battle and trying to look at the messages to know what happened. Anyways, I noticed that sometimes, but not always, the messages might all of a sudden group up into one large paragraph with each message showing up after the last one, just like the message I wrote on here. It makes it hard to read when your busy but it doesnt cause any problems while playing and doesnt crash the game.

No it's ok, post as many times as necessary :) Any chance you could provide a screenshot of that error, I think I understand what you're talking about but just want to make sure.

Just the inventory and stats dont freeze. Also, mail freezes too, as well as gives an error saying your disk is full. Choosing no will make it work. Yes wont work. It will make repeats of whatever mail you have as well as give you any new mail. It may also crash too, but I only had it crash once.

Ok that makes sense, the spells/skills/quests tabs share a lot of code... unfortunately it means every time you get a quest or learn an ability your client will crash. I'll try figure out which part is crashing but it could be something in how list boxes are handled by WINE. The mail bug is related to the download directory error (file/directory handling which also doesn't work well on XP anymore).

EDIT: I was wrong about the mail freezing. The game still is playable while the mail is open. I did notice that the program m59bind.exe doesnt work at all, even if you click on configuration on the game menu in the game.

Can you run m59bind.exe directly from the meridian folder? Wondering if the program itself doesn't work under WINE or if it's just how meridian.exe tries to run it.

EDIT 2: I dont know if this is a bug due to Linux or if its actually in game, but theres this "tower" past the gate leading out of Raza.

This is a software renderer bug, the gate uses some trickery to place the bar across it and while it renders properly in DirectX (classic HW renderer, Ogre client, 3D editor), software messes it up (I'll replace it with a software-friendly gate).

So the game is supposed to detect if you're unable to run hardware mode and switch automatically to software, this probably breaks down when your hardware *could* display it but you're running the game something like WINE which seems to not be able to do so.

The directory creation thing is a known bug on Windows XP, interesting for it to happen in WINE also (and I'm looking for a fix which will work on both).

Once you get the game working after clicking the inventory, does it crash if you click back to spells or skills? Also curious if you can click to the stats or quest tab without crashing.

Tried the installer for classic client from ? Not sure if WINE will let you run .msi installers or not. Unfortunately it's very unlikely the clients will ever run natively on linux (definitely not classic, I can't really say for Ogre).

Meridian 59 Game Discussion / Re: Beta Testers Wanted
« on: August 04, 2016, 03:49:29 AM »
You might want to consider 105 for this - every developer currently working on Meridian 59 is with the 105/112 team, the 105/112 codebase is significantly different from the 103 one and also we are actively trying to build a US-based population on 105 (112 is heavily populated but German-speaking). There's not really a split anymore, 105 is the US Meridian 59 server, 112 is the German server, 200 is the German Sacred Haven server.

I do like your focus group idea, but I also don't think the US m59 community has the population to sustain two groups. I think we need to build a US-based community around 105 before we can pull off something this ambitious so all focus should be put towards achieving that goal first.

« on: July 22, 2016, 08:48:59 PM »
Time for another building bonus weekend :)

Monsters will give 15% increased XP.

Spell and skill softcaps will be less harsh - lowered the penalty for trying to increase past softcap (2 * requisite stat).

In effect from now until Monday 12am UTC.

General Development / New Meridian 59 room editor!
« on: June 21, 2016, 03:24:13 PM »
I was trying to make some new rooms for 105 in the old room editor and while we've fixed it up somewhat, it is still very frustrating to work with and new rooms take anywhere from 10-100 hours for anything more complex than a rectangle.

Instead for the past couple of weeks I've been working on porting a new Doom level editor, GZDoomBuilder, to work with the Meridian 59 room format (which is now significantly different from the Doom map format).

The first release of that project is complete, and anyone interested in making rooms for Meridian can download the editor at

There are some screenshots and a bit of setting up information at

If you're interested in making rooms and haven't used the old editor before, contact me and I'll give you more information on how to use the editor.

Compiled rooms will work with the 103 or 105/112 source code.
